Based on feedback from our 2018-19 students, we will be offering the top two student elective choices of Finance and Art. Classes begin September 13, 2019 and end May 22, 2020. Elective Course Fee: 10 monthly payments of $110 starting August 1, 2019 and ending May 1, 2020.

Classes will be offered in the morning and afternoon. Students have the option to sign up for one class or both classes being offered for their grade level. Students who choose to take both classes will have a supervised lunch break from 11:45 to 12:30. Our Finance classes will take place on Friday mornings from 9:00 to 11:45 followed by the

Art course which will run from 12:30 to 3:00.

In order to offer an elective course, there must be a minimum of 5 students registered by July 19th. Registration is open to all 3OA students and homeschoolers in the Naples, Bonita, Estero, and Fort Myers areas. There will be a maximum per class enrollment of 10 students. Enroll early to ensure your spot!  Curriculum fees will be due July 26th. This will allow us time to order all the required supplies for these programs.

Below you will find the course information and descriptions to better make your child’s elective choices for 2019-20:

Finance and Business Technology

Students will use critical thinking and problem solving skills as they explore personal and business financial management. This course will provide an overview of current business, finance and information systems and trends and to introduce students to the foundations required for today's business environments. During this course, students will gain an understanding of business management, business law, banking, accounting, and investments. Learners will examine how businesses raise the capital they need to start and sustain their organization, learn how to fiscally manage risks, and understand how to gain investors. Students will be utilizing database, spreadsheet, presentation applications, accounting and tax software to enhance their understanding of business finance management.

Intro to Finance

This course will assist students in making informed decisions regarding their future financial needs and to provide information regarding budgeting, taxes, banking, credit accounts and other personal financial situations. The content will assist students in developing effective financial skills in the following areas: planning, management, economics, technology programs, financial liability, and insurance. Instruction and learning activities are provided in a classroom setting using hands-on experiences with real-life simulations, materials and games appropriate to the course content and in accordance with current practices.

Art Media

Using the Creating a Masterpiece program by master artist Sharon Hofer, students will see their confidence and skill level grow as they explore the various art skills presented throughout this course. Working in a social setting, the students will be able to choose from a variety of mediums with a student choice of over 100 projects and 300 different art lessons (refer to the list below). With so many lessons to choose from, students are able to customize their artistic path by utilizing the mediums that are of personal interest to them. Students will be using the monthly Scholastic Art magazine subscription to provide a strong academic art foundation. The monthly Scholastic Art magazine will provide students with a foundational understanding of art, build artistic vocabulary, learn about different artists, and allow students to have a rich, engaging conversation within the class.  This course will also have several field trips to art museums throughout the year. Students will develop their artistic skills with an emphasis on producing beautiful, masterpiece quality artwork.
